Chris Powers is senior vice president of Human Resources at Tioga State Bank. Prior to that he was vice president of Human Resources at Maines Paper & Foods. Over the past 26 years Chris has held human resource and operations positions at Universal Instruments, Vergason Technology and IBM.  While at Universal, he traveled extensively teaching management and leadership courses throughout mainland China, as well as in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, London, Budapest, and in India.

This month's menu features Poached Salmon with hollandaise or Chicken Medallions with Leeks and Creme Fraiche.  Coffee, Tea, or Iced Tea is included.  The cost is $15 for members and $18 for non-members.  Cocktails are available with credit card purchases only.  Parking for the club is located behind the building or on Front Street.

Legislative Update

Submitted by Doug Moore, NYSDOL

From Your Legislative Chair-

Are you aware of the recent changes to the FMLA?? From the USDOL compliance website http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/fmla/#keynews : “The President signed into law H.R. 4986, the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2008 (NDAA). Among other things, section 585 of the NDAA amends the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) to permit a "spouse, son, daughter, parent, or next of kin" to take up to 26 workweeks of leave to care for a "member of the Armed Forces, including a member of the National Guard or Reserves, who is undergoing medical treatment, recuperation, or therapy, is otherwise in outpatient status, or is otherwise on the temporary disability retired list, for a serious injury or illness." Additional information and a copy of Title I of the FMLA, as amended, are available on the website. (January 28, 2008)”.

Note: my understanding is that this portion of the NDAA took effect when the President signed it into law. Check your handbook and policies to see that they reflect the change.
